The 2013 Norbert Wiener Address will be given by ETSU Professor Don Gotterbarn. He will present the address: “Virtue Ethics and the Cybersecurity Professional(?) a missing link”.

Don Gotterbarn is Director of the Software Engineering Ethics Research Institute, Professor Emeritus East Tennessee State University, and visiting professor at the Centre for Computing and Social Responsibility, UK. He currently chairs the ACM committee on professional ethics, and was instrumental in the development of IEEE/ACM Software Engineering Code of Ethics and Professional Practice. With 25 years experience and a background in teaching (computer ethics, software engineering, software project management) and as a consultant (US Navy; crime reporting database; certification of software for vote-counting; missile defense systems) he links technical research with industry and government. His research has appeared in more than 100 articles in professional journals, and his contribution to the field is recognized by various professional bodies (e.g. ACM Outstanding Contribution award 2005; and Joseph Weizenbaum award 2010 from International Society for Ethics and Information Technology).
